I've Got Something I'd Like to Show You
I really like words not only literature but spoken, sung, extracted. Small phrases can conjure up huge images, and titles usually predate my works. I like old cinema, and Bruno Munari, and used books (for both paper and reference).
And so this exhibition is about the stories, soliloquies, secrets, and other such words that inspire me.
This exhibition will house a number of new works, in addition to a selection of fond portfolio pieces and solutions to older problems. Vallery's substantial space has prompted me to work on a much larger scale than I have ever worked before, but I hope one will find a sense of playfulness and intimacy relative to the change in size. There will be a wide variety of media on display, including drawings, hand embroideries, found objects, etc.
"I've Got Something I'd Like to Show You" is an expression that implies the presentation of something at once honest and curious. I would like to think of my work as honest - but my honesty ought never be at the expense of invention, abstraction, and fantasy. To be sure, I believe honesty and fantasy can be quite the same thing.
